Well the iPad bug bit me. I was very excited when I first saw Steve Jobs unveil the iPad back in January. I couldn’t wait to try it out. A few months passed and April 3rd finally arrived. I went to my local Best Buy to check out the iPad and was initially less than impressed. I spent some time with the device and after three hours I left with every bit of the money I planned to spend still in my checking account.
A few days passed and I came home to my roommate telling me that it was time. Trey told me that if I bought an iPad then so would he. I thought about it for a second and realized that I hadn’t stopped reading articles on the iPad since the week previous. I tossed the idea around all the while making Trey promise that he too would buy one if we went that night. Peer pressure, indeed. I read nothing but good things about the device. I felt like I certainly didn’t need it, but I did want to have the latest and greatest from Cupertino’s labs. So we did it.
An hour later we were back with our 16GB iPads just in time for Chuck on NBC. I waited, the full hour, for Chuck to end so that I wouldn’t miss either the episode or the unboxing (in all it’s glory) of the iPad. Soon it was loaded with a few playlists, some photos, my Safari bookmarks, Address Book and iCal and that’s about it. I saw no reason to add any of my existing iPhone apps just yet since they really looked terrible on Best Buy’s demo iPad.
Now I currently own two Apple laptops, an iPhone, and an iPod. I had absolutely no reason to snag an iPad but after using it without the distractions present in the store that day, I must say that I love it. Browsing the Web has never been so intimate. It is as if I’m holding this month’s edition of Whatever Web Page I’m On magazine. My four year old MacBook may very well become my “new” HTPC as I resolve to travelling only with the iPad now as my newer MacBook Pro rarely leaves the multitude of cables/wires that stay connected to it.
As more and more app developers show the iPad’s promise, I’ll continue to enjoy it as my current go to gadget for everything Web site related (save Flash, I know). It is just easy and convenient and comfortable to use…so much so that it doesn’t even feel like I’m using anything. All righty, enough with the blind Apple love. I’ll end this bit with the same old song and dance that everyone else out there obsessed with the iPad recites: To claim this new device as an oversized iPod Touch is silly. The added screen real estate and power from the A4 chip really changes the game. Welcome iPad. I am glad you are here.

are you sure you don’t own stock in Apple? wow, u own it…must be that time of the month. haha – see ya
